Green Corridor Coalition Announces Photo Contest Winners

The Green Corridor Coalition is pleased to announce the winners of its recent photo competition.

The contest was designed to familiarize people with the green corridor that was once targeted for the construction of the proposed Route 53 Extension by the Illinois Tollway.

The competition was open to all amateur photographers with guidelines that focused on the nature and wildlife of the wetlands and woods of the 13-mile strip of undeveloped land that runs from where Rt. 53 currently ends, at Lake-Cook Road, and continues north to Rt. 120 in Grayslake. Criteria for judges were designed to “ help everyone experience the beauty and splendor of these lands, where scenic views and rare habitats provide local communities with a gateway to connect to nature and improve their health, resilience, and quality of life. “

The awards were divided in three areas with three winners in each.

The winning photographs will be displayed at the Adler Arts Center from January 14, 2022 to January 29, 2022. Opening reception will be held at the Adler Arts Center on Friday, January 14, 2022 from 7-9 pm. Awards ranged from $400 to $100 depending on category of photograph. We appreciated the assistance of judges from the North Shore Camera Club.

In addition, photos will be displayed on the websites of the following sponsors: Sierra Club Illinois Woods & Wetlands Group; Lake County Audubon Society; Openlands; and Midwest Sustainability Group.
