Support the Lake County Greenway

Lake County residents have a chance to increase biodiversity and wildlife habitat by supporting efforts to transform the now-defunct Route 53 extension into a state park.

The park would include a continuous nature trail for walking, running, and biking; recreational amenities for kids and families; and a dedicated sanctuary for rare and critical natural habitats.

What can you do to make this transformation happen? Sign a petition that asks local and state elected officials to transfer the land to the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR), to be protected as a state park. You will join Lake County residents, leaders, and environmental groups who are leading the movement to protect the wetlands and woods of the 13-mile strip of undeveloped land where

Route 53 would once have stood. Please sign the petition and share it with your personal networks and social media as soon as possible.
